Portaria is a village and a former municipality in Magnesia, Thessaly. It is located on Mt. Pelion, facing the Pagasetic Gulf, north of Volos and its suburbs. The majority of the buildings are typical examples of Pelion architecture with their windows and doors decorated with a variety of colors.
Makrinitsa, is a village next to Portaria. It is situated in the northwestern part of the Pelion mountains, 6 km northeast of Volos. One of the most characteristic traditional settlements, full of mansions and houses that look like hanging ornaments on the green mountain side. Makrinitsa is a popular tourist destination, especially during the winter.
